Kerry Ely was born Kerry Dorrell and grew up in Lithgow, Australia. She trained as a nurse in Canberra and first married Keith Wherry. They had three daughters: Sarah, Katherine and Emma and were both heavily involved in the old Rolls-Royce movement. Kerry played a major role in the very successful Silver Ghost tour to Ayers Rock in the early 1990s. After Kerry and Keith went their separate ways she married Lachlan Ely and they continued Rolls-Royce touring in their Phantom. The onset of Lachie's illness began an increasingly difficult period for Kerry. She cared for Lachie as long as she possibly could until he died a year ago. Kerry's own health was declining but she kept caring for Lachlan and I think many of us now realise just how great her sacrifice has been.
Kerry was vibrant, bright and funny, the life of the party and a kind and generous friend. Many will remember the wonderful marmalade she brought on tours to be enjoyed by us all. I will miss her cheery voice, her throaty chuckle and her infinite compassion and kindness. She was a rare and wonderful person. She is survived by her mother, Mrs Dorrell, brother Brian and sister Lauren and daughters Sarah, Kath and Emma. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to them in their sad loss. She will not be forgotten.
