Irish Georgian Tour to Cumbria

This year the joint IGS/20-Ghost Club tour was to Cumbria. We were based in the Shap Wells Hotel (part of the Best Western Group) situated midway between Penrith and Kendal and 4 miles from the M6 junction. It is isolated and enjoys stunningly beautiful scenery and has a secluded car park.

As usual we visited an eclectic range of country houses, most of which are not open to the public such as Rigmaden Hall, Isel Hall, Mirehouse and Faw Park, together with some better known houses such as Leighton Hall, Lowther Castle, and Holkjer Hall (to be confirmed). The tour was slightly longer than normal, starting with lunch on Friday 17th May and ending about tea-time on Monday 20th May.

A full report with photographs will appear hopefully in News & Record Issue 40.
