It has been decided that the Joint tour next May will be in North-West part of Ireland, mainly in counties Sligo and Fermanagh where there are some interesting country houses and other historic buildings to see and some wonderful driving countryside. The dates will be the 5 nights of Saturday 11 to Wednesday 15 May inclusive, thus finishing after breakfast on Thursday 16 May. Two suitable hotels have been sounded out and are able to provide the amount of accommodation we would need, on of them being Markree Castle just south of Sligo town; John Redmill acted as Historic Buildings Consultant to the owners in the recent works carried out the year before last.
There is then the possibility of a further [perhaps] 3 nights for just the 20-Ghost Club members in either Co Mayo or Co Donegal to make the whole journey to Ireland more worth-while. Otherwise there would be time to return to the UK to take part in the 20-GC tour of Kent and Sussex from 20 May, organised by Nick Naismith as advertised in the News & Record that has just been issued.
Jimmy Valentine and I would be most grateful if you could let either of us know as soon as possible if you are in principle interested in this, the 41st Joint tour with the London Chapter of the Irish Georgian Society, and we look forward to hearing from you.
