Chilterns Countryside Tour and Kop Hill Climb

This was a really excellent weekend. We stayed for two nights at The Compleat Angler at Marlow in rooms overlooking the river and arived during Friday afternoon, in time for a relaxing tea in the waterside garden. After we all met for drinks we repaired to the restaurant for a very good dinner and then on Saturday morning, after breakfast set off on a truly delightful run through delightful villages and narrow tree lined roads until we arrived at the Priory Vintage Car Company where we were Royally entertained by Carl and his colleagues, spending some time looking with fascination around their workshops and enjoying some much appreciated coffee and biscuits.

We all appreciated the gifts we were each given of a very useful pen with their address and telephone number printed on them.

Following this visit we went to a beautiful Pub where lunch had been arranged for us and following this we all, with some difficulty being very replete with food, we got bck into our cars and had a choice of Country Houses to go and wander around. Most of us arrived back at the Hotel at around 5.00pm and once again had a most enjoyable dinner later that evening.

On Sunday we drove en masse to Princes Risborough for the famous Kop Hill Climb. What a magnificent spectacle! Hundreds of vintage cars lined up on the field and cheering, waving crowds watching from every vantage point as we each took our turn to drive as fast as we could up the incredibly steep Kop Hill.Following our climb we made our way back to the field and wandered around the cars, had lunch, bought some ‘must haves but don’t needs’ from various stalls and eventually turned for home in glorious sunshine during the min afternoon. All in all a very memorable and enjoyable weekend.
