Centenary London to Edinburgh Top Gear Trial

A five day Centenary re-enactment of the famous London to Edinburgh Tour when top gear had to be used at all times with gear change gates sealed. Start point The RAC Club Pall Mall London, following the old Great North Road and A1 to Edinburgh, and returning via a scenic route to Goodwood in time for the Goodwood Revival race meeting. 17 of our cars were headed by the Silver Ghost that was the car that undertook the original trial 100 years ago – chassis no 1701 – a stunning achievement. The car and six others undertook the entire trip to Edinburgh in top gear with all other gears blocked off. A full report appeared in Octane magazine Otcober 2011 and in the Far East magazine Rewind again in October 2011, showing the truly global interest shown in this event.

The Committee and all members who took part in this re-enactment were delighted with the generous sponsorship of Fleming Family & Partners, the private wealth management group, and much enjoyed meeting Adam Fleming, the Chairman, over dinner with Rolls-Royce following the succesful conclusion to the ‘trial’. His early Bentley Continental was also much admired!
